The first book in her new mystery series, "Cora Crafts Mysteries." is DEATH AMONG THE DOILIES, which was selected as "Fresh Fiction Not to Miss" title. She's also penned a historical fiction: MEMORY OF LIGHT: AN AFTERMATH OF GETTYSBURG, the Kindle World's bestselling romance novella, THE BEEKEEPER'S BRIDE, A ST. HELENA VINEYARD KINDLE WORLD novella, and the soon-to be released, EVERY FIBER OF YOU, A ST. HELENA VINEYARD KINDLE WORLD novella.

Interview Excerpt

Next: The next book in the series is "Macrame Murder." It comes out August 29. Cora, Jane, and Ruby, are guest teachers at a beach resort.

Social media: You know, it's hard to measure this kind of thing. But my cookbooks came out before social media was a big thing and it seems to me that social media has made a big difference for me, in terms of building community. It's a great way to reach readers.

Personal appearances: On May 6, I’ll be at the Waynesboro Public Library Author Fest.

On May 21, My launch party will be held at Stitch Amore in Waynesboro, Va

The best way to keep up with me is social media--Facebook and Twitter.

Novellas: If you're talking about the novellas in my scrapbooking series, it was a way to keep connected with my readers between books. I write faster than the publisher can publish books. And readers expect more these days, so it was a win-win for everybody.

I think it's hard to measure how much impact they've had on the sale of my books. I think that it helped to keep my readers in the loop and maintain that importan connection with them.

Reader list: I have a newsletter and ask readers there if they are interested in receiving ARCs. I also have a reader group on FB where I check in almost daily while I'm writing, giving them hints on my project, process, and so on. Now, we also chat about what we are reading. There's no promo in that group. I save the promo for my newsletters, and my author page. the reader group is much more intimate and active than an author page.

Interview Excerpt

Next: True Blue Son is the third book in the Syndicate-Born Trilogy and will be launching on April 24th. It’s by far the most thrilling of the three books.

Social media addiction is real! I spend a lot of time on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I built up my following slowly by engaging with people who like the same things I do and of course people who are interested in reading suspenseful stories

Personal appearances: I do regular interviews on-line and have links to them all on my website. I also do in person readings at a local feminist bookstore in Austin called, Book Woman. They and another book store called, Half-Priced Books carry my paperbacks.

Covers: The majority of my covers are done by Mallory Rock. She is AMAZING. She and I talk about the basic concepts of the book and she does her thing. I don’t ask for reader feedback because I trust Mallory to know what readers want and to stay in touch with what is in vogue for my genre.

Author bundles: I was invited by the marketing person for the Wedding Dreams box set to be a part of the collection. The goal of the project is to make the USA Today Best Seller list. The ladies in the group are super talented and a lot of fun to work with. I wrote Save the Date, my 9/11 wedding romance, specifically for this set and I am really pleased with how it turned out.

Giving away free books is one of many different roads to take to increase readership. I do giveaway my first in series to all of my subscribers. An e-mail address is a valuable thing and I want my readers to feel like they are getting something in exchange for allowing me into their inbox on a regular basis

Reader list: I maintain a list of about 8k readers right now. I acquired them through various avenues: Instafreebie, sign-up links on the back of my book, promotion events, and my website. I have also shared my sign-up with other authors on their lists and vice versa. This way we grow our list with minimal cost.

Published in Portuguese: We were lucky to have a reader who was able to help us with this. We currently aren’t making much headway with that edition, but are always looking for ways to grow that audience. We even have two Brazillian characters in the Book Cellar Series.

Indie Authors Care March Fundraiser and the Graham’s Foundation: I started off my career as a social worker and fundraiser so I am always up for helping support a good cause. The Indie Author Care event for March benefited the Graham Foundation and the Global Autism Project and raised over $800. My oldest child was diagnosed with Autism so it’s an issue that’s close to heart. As part of the event I promoted my Syndicate-Born Trilogy and gave away copies of the first book in my Book Cellar Mystery Series as an incentive for readers to sign-up for my mailing list.

Post with Profile + Interview: HBS Author's Spotlight

Amazon Author Profile

Author Description:
Dan Taylor is the comedy thriller author of the Jake Hancock P.I. series. He has lived in Oslo, Norway, awhile and speaks the language fluently, though it's hit-and-miss whether he can understand what you're saying. Oh, and he still hasn't learned to ski yet.

Interview Excerpt

Next: I have three works I’ll be releasing hopefully before autumn. The sixth book in my Jake Hancock comedic mystery series is with my editor, I’m currently working on the seventh book, and I’ve written a novel about a hitman who exists in the same universe as Hancock, which I’ve finished editing.

Social media: I used Twitter a lot in the beginning, and definitely gained some readers. But I’ve been lazy with it as of late. I guess I expected faster results, which led to me being less engaged with it and spamming.

Covers: I design them myself, having watched YouTube videos. I’m working on rebranding my books, changing the titles slightly, and using more classy-looking vector-based cover art. As for branding, my books aren’t serious works of fiction. They’re light, silly, and fun, and it’s important to brand them as such, so that I don’t attract readers who are expecting something else.

Giveaways: For a while, the first book in my Jake Hancock series was perma-free. Outside of that, I’ve run free promotions on all but two of my books. But I don’t think it’s as effective as discounting books for a short period of time. I read somewhere that around only ten percent of Kindle books that are downloaded for free are read.

Blogging: Writing an author blog is tricky. You have two demographics to write for: fellow indie authors, which are far more easily targeted via social media, and fans of your books. To satisfy both demographics, I write advice for fellow indie authors with a lot of humor, to make the peeks behind the curtain at the writing process, from a reader’s perspective, less dry and, hopefully, laugh-out-loud funny. My primary goal in writing my blog is to sell my personality…

Newsletter objective: I have a mailing list, and it’s slowly growing. The only method I’ve been using is to ask readers to sign up for it at the end of my books, so that they can receive a discount on new releases. I plan on writing exclusive content for mailing list subscribers, to grow it faster. I think an incentive is important for motivating readers to hand over their email addresses.

Reviews: The best reviews are ones that are seemingly written by a reader who’s intelligent, honest, and discerning, and ones that give readers a good understanding of the type of book they’ll get if they purchase it. Good reviews attract the right readers, and should, in theory, keep the wrong readers away.

Author Description:
Through her various occupations, Abby discovered her love of writing. She'd always been told she had a gift for telling stories, combining the two, she became an author.

Her debut novel, the mystery/sci-fi, In the Beginning, Book I in the Mars Origin "I" Series was an Amazon #1 bestseller. It was written on a whim, packed away, and rediscovered some twelve years later. After publishing it in 2013, Abby decided to make writing a full-time endeavor. She's penned a slew of novels since then and has even more in her head. Although she writes mostly mystery, she's written a historical/women's fiction novel. It was co-written with author and friend, Kathryn Dionne under the pen name Kathryn Longino.

Currently she is working on her first cozy mystery series. There will be at least five in the series, three, Bed & Breakfast Bedlam, Coastal Cottage Calamity, and Maya Mound Mayhem have already been published and are Amazon international bestsellers.

Abby, a former lawyer and college professor, has a bachelor's degree in Economics, a master's in Public Administration, and a Juris Doctor. A lifetime resident of Cleveland, Ohio, Abby spends all of her time writing and enjoying her wonderful grandchildren.

Interview Excerpt

Next: South Seas Shenanigans will be out April 1. If you've kept up with the series, you'll remember there was a wedding in Garden Gazebo Gallivant. And you guessed it, the South Seas is where the honeymoon takes place. But of course, wherever you find Logan and Miss Vivee, you'll find murder.

Social media: I worked very hard to get Twitter followers… Growing Twitter followers is a good way to learn to network. At my age, social media and all the new technology can sometimes be daunting. But I keep at it because it is important on getting your book into the hands of readers. And it does carry over into writing.

Personal appearances: I'm currently doing a book tour that I set up. Keep up with my goings on by following me on social media and on my website www.abbyvandiver.com.

Covers: I do my own covers. I bought Adobe CS.5 a few years back when I was working on an online magazine. When I first started writing, I found that I couldn't afford the covers graphic artists were offering, so I did my own. My covers are so important to the story, in fact, I do the covers before I even start typing.

Bundling: One of my objectives in bundling novels is to impact sales. I read a marketing article once that said one way to increase sales is to have more books. But really impacted my reason to bundle is because readers asked for more.

Free books: At first I thought, I'll never give my books away for free, but then I found that it is a very useful marketing tool. I want, most of all, to give enjoyment to my readers, so it's not necessary I make a boatload of money (but wouldn't that be nice). I found I sold more books when I gave some away free.

Reviews: I've never sought paid reviews, and I used to do book swaps to get reviews. But I did find that sometimes people don't give honest reviews - they'll give a five star if you will - I didn't like that at all. Now I only ask for reviews at the end of my books.

Writing with Kathryn Dionne: I love Kathryn, she is such an awesome writer, and yes, I would love to write more books with her. We were talking on the phone one day, and she said, "What about if we wrote a book together about two friends that have never met?" I thought she was kidding - we'd never met and considered ourselves friends, so I responded, "Yeah, and we can call it "At the End of the Line." and it's just what we did! We had to make it an historical fiction because today everyone can come face-to-face, even if it's only in a virtual world.

Carolyn Arnold
Featured Book: Remnants

All that remains are whispers of the past…

When multiple body parts are recovered from the Little Ogeechee River in Savannah, Georgia, local law enforcement calls in FBI agent and profiler Brandon Fisher and his team to investigate. But with the remains pointing to three separate victims, this isn’t proving to be an open-and-shut case.

With no quick means of identifying the deceased, building a profile of this serial killer is more challenging than usual. How are these targets being selected? Why are their limbs being severed and their bodies mutilated? And what is it about them that is triggering this person to murder?

The questions compound as the body count continues to rise, and when a torso painted blue and missing its heart is found, the case takes an even darker turn. But this is only the beginning, and these new leads draw the FBI into a creepy psychological nightmare. One thing is clear, though: The killing isn’t going to stop until they figure it all out. And they are running out of time…

Author Description:
P.C. Zick describes herself as a storyteller no matter what she writes. And she writes in a variety of genres, including romance, contemporary fiction, and nonfiction. She's won various awards for her essays, columns, editorials, articles, and fiction.

The three novels in her Florida Fiction Series contain stories of Florida and its people and environment, which she credits as giving her a rich base for her storytelling. "Florida's quirky and abundant wildlife—both human and animal—supply my fiction with tales almost too weird to be believable."

Her contemporary romances in the Behind the Love trilogy are also set in Florida. Her most recent works are set in the Smoky Mountains. All of her books are stand-alone reads, even if they appear in a series.

Her novels contain elements of romance with strong female characters, handsome heroes, and descriptive settings. She believes in living lightly upon this earth with love, laughter, and passion, and through her fiction, she imparts this philosophy in an entertaining manner with an obvious love for her characters, plot, and themes.
